Amenti Theatre Company

The Rotterdam dance collective Amenti Theater Company is no stranger to Motel Mozaïque. Their powerful dance performances Anima, Ayahuasca and Kali have been featured at MOMO’s festivals before and artistic director Gil ‘The Grid’ Gomes Leal played a key role in their Liquid program in 2019. Their new performance Lilith premiered very successfully during last MOMO Festival and we are proud to present this performance again in a very special location.

Lilith is about the dark feminine, inspired by the experiences of the different women who play in the piece. The mythical figure Lilith symbolizes suppressed female energy and sexuality. The enormous power that women possess and that is suppressed by the world is the driving force behind this dance and music performance.

Shishani has been sailing for years between the Netherlands and Namibia, her native country. With her quartet Namibian Tales she explored the musical traditions of the San in the Kalahari desert. In 2019 she founded the band Miss Catharsis, which focuses on women of color. “For me, music is something much bigger than I am” Shishani recently said in an interview with 3voor12. That explains the activist undertone in all her work. ‘Can you see with your heart and look past preconceptions / Can you see my soul, past the labeling section’, she sings on her very first single Minority (2012), which was recently re-released. The song can also be found on her new EP Miss Catharsis, where she mixes soul, jazz, indie rock and the rhythms of the San.
